Additional Resources
The Chickscope project team has created a
collection of resources that will make your experience
of the Chickscope project more enjoyable. These
resources are not necessarily essential to experience
Chickscope, but have been found to be effective and
supportive.
Some of these resources come to you directly from
the Chickscope web server; others come from
poultry-related web servers around the world. Some
are educational, some are tools, and some are just
plain fun.
From Egg To
Chick
A compact overview of the development cycle of the
chicken egg. In addition to the information which
can be found in greater detail through the
Explore
Embryology section of the Chickscope
website, there are instructions for building
incubators, suggested experiments for the classroom,
and a good list of (slightly outdated)
references.
Standard Varieties of
Chickens
A modern updating of an 1897 USDA Farmer's
Bulletin which illustrates and describes
dozens of common and exotic breeds/varieties of
chickens. A large number of drawings and pictures
make this one a bandwidth hog, but the illustrations
and supplementary photos are well worth the
wait.
Suggested
Software
A collection of pointers to software which makes
navigating the Chickscope web site, and analyzing
the Chickscope MRI datasets more enjoyable.
Selected Web
Links
An ad hoc collection of pointers to websites
around the world that specialize in chickens or
poultry in general. Roughly sorted by category, you
can locate sources of eggs, incubators, photos and
descriptions of various chicken breeds, etc.
Bibliographic
References
A list of references consulted during the
preparation of the Chickscope website. Contains
references to books and articles about embryology,
anatomy, poultry science, children's books, etc.
