Like the rest of the Chickscope website, the help tabs on the left hand margin of your browser are context-sensitive: no matter which part of Scratchings you are in, you should find help directly related to the task at hand by clicking the help tab.

Reporting Bugs
Should you ever discover a bug, report it immediately to the following email address: csdev@chickscope.beckman.uiuc.edu where your problem will be researched and hopefully fixed. The most common types of bugs are clearly labeled as errors in bright red text on the page that is returned whenever something goes wrong. Pages that show a banner image and nothing else are also bugs.

When you write, please include the following pieces of information:

• The time it occurred.
• What you were trying to do (post, update membership info, etc.)
• A description of the problem
• A copy of the page that is generated. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Choose File:Save As... from the browser menu bar.
  2. Save the buggy document as HTML to your local disc. This is temporary.
  3. Attach or include the saved HTML file to an email message addressed to csdev as listed above.
  4. Once the email is sent, you can delete the saved copy from your disc.

How Are You Doing That?
Scratchings is implemented using a highly customized version of HyperNews1.9.6. Visit the HyperNews website for more information and detailed instructions on how the product works. Do not send problems with Scratchings or bug reports to the HyperNews authors. The authors of HyperNews have never heard of Chickscope, and would probably be disappointed in the way the Chickscope staff hacked up their code.
